Originally from Sudbury, Kathryn has a background in Kinesiology and during her BSc, interned with an athletic therapist.  Kathryn then pursued her interest in muscle disease, moving to Ottawa to complete a MSc in Cellular and Molecular Medicine under the supervision of Dr. Kyle Cowan. Kathryn’s thesis explored the role of Pannexin1 in skeletal muscle and satellite cell function in vivo and ex vivo using a novel conditional mouse model. Working with a novel mouse model doing behavioural testing, ex vivo myoblast and myofiber culture, and developmental influences of Pannexin1, Kathryn found a passion for research and advancing medicine.
As much as Kathryn enjoyed the wet lab research, her interests transitioned into clinical research. With Dr. Hanns Lochmüller, Kathryn is excited to coordinate various clinical trials for emerging new therapies in neuromuscular disease.
Research interest: muscular dystrophy, neuromuscular disease, satellite cell, muscle function
