uOttawa Eric Poulin Centre for Neuromuscular Disease Celebrates 25 Years of Neuromuscular Research
New co-directors Dr Mireille Khacho and Dr Hanns Lochmüller begin their tenure
On November 25th the University of Ottawa Eric Poulin Centre for Neuromuscular Disease (CNMD) welcomed researchers, trainees and staff to celebrate the research centre’s 25th anniversary.
Founded in 1999 by Dr Bernard Jasmin and Dr Rashmi Kothary, the CNMD has flourished as an interdisciplinary hub of cutting-edge science, evolving into a research hotbed that’s earned a global reputation as a talent-rich innovator, uniting ambitious and talented researchers from the University of Ottawa, The Ottawa Hospital, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), and the CHEO Research Institute.
The event highlighted the current groundbreaking neuromuscular research being conducted by investigators at the CNMD and celebrated the enormous growth and international achievements of the CNMD under former co-directors Dr Jodi Warman-Chardon and Dr Robin Parks. The celebration also ushered in the new leadership tenure of Dr Mireille Khacho and Dr Hanns Lochmüller, who see the coming years as a galvanizing time for the field of neuromuscular disease research and view the Centre’s broad community as poised to lead the way.
