Sydney Zakutney holds a bachelor’s honour’s degree in biology and minor in chemistry from Acadia university. Her honour’s work examined the impact of the relaxin-3 neuropeptide (RLN-3) on brain inflammation and neural degeneration following a traumatic brain injury. During the summer of 2021 Sydney worked with Dr. Jocelyn Zwicker at the Ottawa Neuromuscular Center at the Civic hospital to create a resources page on the neuromuscular center webpage for patients with ALS in the Ottawa area.
After graduating from Acadia university in May of 2023, Sydney is completing a summer internship in the Neuromuscular Center. On completion of this internship, Sydney will join the Lochmüller Lab’s clinical research team as a research assistant.
Sydney is passionate about learning more about neuromuscular diseases and supporting people affected by them.
