Graham Mainwood Lecture – Dr. Markus A. Rüegg

The University of Ottawa Éric Poulin Centre for Neuromuscular Disease (CNMD)  under the co-leadership of Dr. Hanns Lochmüller is delighted to host the 2026 Graham Mainwood Lecture on Friday, October 9th 2:30pm – 3:30pm at the Sprott Centre, Critical Care Wing 5th floor, OHRI, Room 5225.
Our guest speaker will be:

Dr. Markus A. Rüegg

Professor of Neurobiology,

Biozentrum, University of Basel

Seminar Title: “From understanding LAMA2-related muscular dystrophy to innovative AAV gene therapy”

Dr. Markus A. Rüegg is a neurobiologist and professor at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that maintain skeletal muscle structure and function, with particular emphasis on neuromuscular disorders and congenital muscular dystrophies. For more than two decades, his work has contributed to understanding the biological pathways underlying these conditions and to exploring potential therapeutic approaches, including gene-based strategies for LAMA2-related congenital muscular dystrophy.
